The 9 Day Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu with Quinoa Team is one of the most beautiful and interesting treks on offer in the Cusco region. Following little visited pathways and Inca Trails, beautiful scenery and visits to the two major Inca sites in the area, this trek has it all! The trek begins following the regular route for Choquequirao but instead of returning the way you came you continue on and eventually joins the last section of the Salkantay trek to arrive to Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chikiska – Santa Rosa

After being collected from your hotel at 4:30 am, drive for 4 hours to the trailhead located at the village of Capuliyoc. On the way, you will visit the Inca site of Sayhuite, an enormous monolithic rock with geometrical and animal figures, considered an engineering map that shows the complex irrigation system of the area. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, You will meet the trekking staff and start the Trek to the great “lost cities of the Incas.” The first 4 hours downhill to Chickiska, starting the hike in the highlands into the Apurimac Canyon, where the weather is warmer. Lunch is served by your trekking chef using fresh products from the area. The second part of the day is 2.5 hours uphill to the campsite in Santa Rosa village.

Day 2: Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao

After breakfast, you will start the most challenging part of the tour. The hike begins with a 4-hour zig-zag climb to Marampata, where lunch will be waiting for you with a fantastic view of the mountains and a wide variety of flora and fauna. After lunch, hike for two more hours to the Choquequirao Inca Site. In the afternoon, you can go to explore and enjoy the sunset. The Campsite is located near the archeological site.

Day 3: Choquequirao – Pinchiunuyoc – Rio Blanco

Wake up with a nice hot cup of coffee or tea in your tent while enjoying the Andes view. You will have a guided tour of the most impressive sights at the great citadel of Choquequirao. After lunch, you will ascend for 1 hour to Choquequirao pass; next is a 3-hour downhill until the Inca Site of Pinchiuniyoc. After exploring the ancient terraces, you will continue for 2-more hours downhill. The Campsite is at Rio Blanco (1880 m / 6167 ft) – Be sure you bring a good mosquito repellent.

Day 4: Rio Blanco – Maizal – Pajonal

After breakfast, you will continue the Trek; the first part is a 4-hour challenging zig-zag climb to Maizal (2891m / 9488 ft.). After enjoying a well-deserved lunch, you will continue a steep climb for 4 hours until the Campsite at  Pajonal at (4000m /13124ft). Along the way, you will enjoy the beautiful views of farming lands, native plants, birds, and the ancient Victoria Mines.

Day 5: Pajonal – Yanama – Lucmabamba

After breakfast, hike for 1 hour to San Juan Pass at (4210m/135549). Once reaching the top, you’ll take some time to enjoy the mountains’ fantastic vistas; then you will go down the hill for 3 hours until the Village of Yanama at (3700m /12139ft). After lunch, say goodbye to the muleteers and take the transportation to Lucmabamba (2100m/6890ft. I spent the night in a coffee farmer’s house.

Day 6: Lucmabamba – Llaqtapata – Aguas Calientes

Wake up among coffee and avocado trees, visit the organic coffee farm, and learn the process of harvesting. Then, you will follow for 3 hours through an ancient Inca Trail up to Llaqta. You will have the first and best view of the Great Inca city of Machu Picchu. After enjoying the sights, you will continue down to hydroelectric for lunch, then hike for three more hours, the final part along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes. Spend the night in a Hotel at Aguas Calientes.

Day 7: Machu Picchu – Cusco

Waking up early and preparing for the Trek’s most important day, you will take the first bus back up to Machu Picchu to enter before sunrise. You will see the most important streets, plazas, and temples. After the guided tour, you will have time to explore by yourself or hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain (Extra hikes different from the citadel). In the afternoon, take the Vistadome panoramic train back to Cusco.  Drop off at your hotel around 7.30 pm, where the Choquequiro trek to Machu Picchu ends.

Send us your main Departure date and back up date: By providing us with a main date and a back up date for your trek (classic Inca Trail, Lares, Salkantay, etc) you automatically authorize Wayna Peru Travel to use either of these dates for your reservation. Wayna Peru Travel within the next 48 hours (after you have sent us your booking form and confirm deposit was made) will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek.

Send us your Personal Details for Booking: Your passport number and other information must be valid. Please advise if you change your passport number after booking the tour (especially for booking the classic Inca Trail as if we do not make a change in your official details, you may not be permitted to do the trek). Please Note changing passports’ numbers requires an extra fee (we are able to change passports numbers easily on our receipt but its also extremely important that we make the changes with the Inca Trail authorities)

Student rate: In order to obtain this discount you must have a valid ISIC card. It is important you scan and e-mail this to us at the time of booking and that it is valid on the date you are booked on the Inca Trail/alternative trek (you will need to show the real ISIC card upon your arrival here in Cusco and in Machu Picchu).

Payment of deposit: For any of pour Adventure treks ending in Machu Picchu.

Please note, if you get the permits for the 7am start you will probably have to miss the Machu Picchu guided tour.

ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS FOR THE TREK:

Below is a list of items that we highly recommend you keep with you at all times in your personal backpack. Remember you will be carrying this with you everyday of the trek so we recommend you bring a good quality daypack which is both light and comfortable. It is important to note that due to local regulations, your backpack should not exceed 25L. All larger backpacks can not be taken into Machu Picchu and will need to be stored outside the gates.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS FOR YOUR DUFFEL BAGS:

During the trek will provide you with a duffel bag in which you can pack any items that you won’t need to keep with you during the day. Our porters will carry this bag for you throughout the trek. Please note this bag should weigh a maximum of 7 kg including the weight of your sleeping bag and air mattress (if you bring/rent one). When rented from us these two items weigh approximately 3 kg. During the Inca Trek, you will travel through different temperatures as you climb/descend, it can also be cold at night when at the campsite. Therefore layers work best!

DEPOSIT:

In order to make a reservation with Wayna Peru Travel you are required to make a $200 deposit for each trek and a $ 50 deposit for Day Tours. The deposit should be paid via PayPal. . All deposits are unfortunately non-refundable as they are used to secure your reservation (by purchasing permits, entrance tickets, etc.).

REMAINING BALANCE:

The remaining balance can be paid upon your arrival to Cusco and we ask that this be paid at least 36 hours prior to your tour. If you are not able to arrive in Cusco this far in advance of your trek, we ask that you notify your travel agent in advance to make arrangements. You can pay the remaining balance with Peruvian Soles, Dollars (or a combination).

CANCELLATIONS:

All primary deposits are unfortunately 100% non-refundable. However, the earlier you notify us of a cancellation, the better we can assist you. Please send all cancellation notifications to info@waynaperutravel.com.

If you cancel 8 weeks or more days before departure: Cancellation fees equal the amount of your deposit.

8 weeks to 4 weeks before departure: 60% of the total tour price is due.

4 weeks to 5 days before departure: 80% of the total tour price is due.

5 days to 36 hours: 90% of the total tour price is due.

36 hours or less before departure: 100% of the total price is due.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS:

Visitors are responsible for ensuring that they have valid visas and / or passports. Passports are required to be valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel.

CHILDREN:

All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Discounts may apply for children under the age of 12.

PRICES:

Prices are per person.

REFUNDS:

Refunds are processed to the credit card(s) used for the original payment.

TRANSFERS:

For your safety, comfort and convenience, we are the only company in Cusco that offers free transfers to and from the airport to your hotel on arrival and departure. Please send us your exact arrival time in advance. (ONLY FOR TREKS & PACKAGES)

TIPS:

Tipping in Peru is completely voluntary. Tipping guidelines are provided with your final travel documents that are provided during your tour briefing, held the day before your tour.
